The RCN OHN Forum Scotland was established in 1987 by a few enthusiastic and committed individuals and has an affiliation with the main RCN body but continues to be autonomous and financially independent . Professor Ann Lowis was the first Chair person and many others have followed in her footsteps since then.Since its conception the dedicated committee members have organised an annual educational conference within Scotland which provides an excellent opportunity for professional networking and sharing ideas in practice, management, education and research. Our annual event is our main income generating activity which financially supports the committee members in theri various activities on behalf of the forum.
Anyone who is an RCN member may join (all you have to do is complete and submit the online application). This will ensure that your name and address is added to our database and you will receive a regular newsletter (about three per year) letting you know what the Chair and the committee have be doing throughout the year. Our database is separate from the main RCN one and is therefore managed and administered by the RCN OHN Forum Scotland committee.
What do we do ?
There are several meetings throughout the year in order to plan and organise for :-
- An annual educational conference (usually in the fisrt quarter)
- To offer financial assistance (yearly) to nurses (including students) wishing to attend our conference. For more information click on this see funding (Jane Wilson Fund).
- To offer financial assistance every year through the Mair Scholarship in order to assist with an aspect of practice, education, travel or research. For more information click this see funding ( Mair Scholarship).
- As committee members we are often asked to comment of various consultative policy documents and attend various working groups.
- Professional networking – other OHN/As groups e.g. RCN SOHN, FOHNEU & multi- professional groups such as POOSH in Scotland.
We are committed to sharing our ideas in practice, management, education and research in order to assist and make a difference to the health and well-being of others and and are committed to raising the profile of occupational health nursing not only within Scotland but further afield into Europe and beyond.
