RCN OHN Forum Scotland
Welcome to the RCN Occupational Health Nursing Forum for Scotland

Occupational Health Nursing Forum for Scotland

Professor Ann Lowis from The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen was the first Chair person in 1987 and since then many others have taken up this lead role.

The RCN OHN Forum Scotland was established in 1987 and has an affiliation with the Royal College of Nursing yet has always remained independent from the main professional body. Since its conception the dedicated committee members have organised an annual educational conference within Scotland which provides an excellent opportunity for professional networking and sharing ideas in practice, management, education and research. Our annual event is our main income generating activity and enables the committee members to attend meetings and selected conferences on behalf of the group.

Anyone who is an RCN member can join (all you have to do is complete and submit the online application). This will ensure that your name and address is added to our database and you will receive a regular newsletter letting you know what the Chair Person and  the committee have be doing as well as up to date information on our annual event. Our database  is separate from the main RCN one and is therefore managed and administered by the RCN OHN Forum Scotland committee.

What do we do ?

As active committee members we hold several meetings throughout the year in order to plan and organise for :-

  • An annual educational conference
  • Offer financial assistance (yearly) to nurses (including students) wishing to attend our conference. For more information click on funding then the Jane Wilson Fund.
  • Offer financial assistance every year  through the Mair Scholarship to assist with an aspect of practice,  education, travel or research. For more information click on funding then the Mair Scholarship.
  • As committee members we are often asked to comment of various consultative policy documents and attend various working groups.
  • Professional networking – other OHN/As groups e.g. RCN SOHN, FOHNEU & multi- professional groups such as POOSH in Scotland.

As active committee members we are committed to sharing ideas in practice, management, education and research in order to assist and make a difference to the health and well-being of others and and are committed to raising the profile of occupational health nursing not only within Scotland but further afield into Europe and beyond.
